May 20th 2006 Fatima Festival  5K

The second annual Our Lady of Fatima Spring Festival 5K run/walk was held on Saturday, May 20, 2006 in Biloxi with 127 people running in the 5K and 70 one-milers. After a few instructions, we were off. Robert Bedsole burned up the course and finished first with a fast 15:52. The first female was Lori Kalliniko. Mark Koch and Nancy Phillips were the Masters winners, and Bill Gasparrini and Lu Jeffrey were the Grand Masters winners. Phillip Wedgeworth and Chuck Gatzman represented the Pine Belt Area. Phillip was first in his age group. This was a very good group of runners for a second year race, and the cause is a good one. Much thanks to all who worked so hard to make this race a success. I was most impressed with a large group of young people from across the country who not only ran and helped work the race, but who also have been on the coast for quite some time helping out with Katrina recovery. The race was well organized and well run (no pun intended). After the race we had good refreshments with fruit, sports drink, water, and soft drinks.

A good crowd was on hand for the race
