The Holiday Half-Marathon was held on Saturday, December 9 at
Mullet Point Park, Point Clear, Alabama.
This is a great course for anyone interested in a flat fast
half marathon course within driving distance of Hattiesburg.
There were about 200 people in the half and 85 or so in the 8K.
The 8:30 a.m. start found us jumping around from foot to foot
trying to keep warm in the 38 degree weather. Hey, it was South
Alabama and that's about as cold as it gets, so lots of people
just had to wear their Goretex and North Face fleece. You don't
get a lot of chances down there, you know. I put on my Santa
hat and wore it the whole way.
It was a perfect race for us. We started out in the back and
passed lots of people after seven or eight miles, and no one
passed us. The last two miles were our fastest. You don't get
to say that too often! We ran 2:06:51.
After the race we were standing around drinking Starbucks coffee
and eating pizza when they called out Renee's name. She won the
Grand Master Division. © Dow Ford
