The twenty-fifth annual
Pass to Bay 10K was held on Saturday, December 16, with 110
people completing the 10K and 13 one-milers; however, this
was really a Pass to the Bay bridge and back since the Bay
St. Louis bridge is no longer there, and we didn't trust the
ferry to take us across to the other side. Besides that, the
ferry was not operating today. One of the more interesting
things about today was the fog. Richard Sims and I rode down
and could barely see the front of the car for the whole way,
and the fog didn't let up until about 10:00, when most of us
were finishing with the 10K. After a few instructions, Max
Lemons gave us the signal to run, and we took off. Tino
Gonzalez took the early lead and was able to hold on for the
win. John Passwater was the Masters winner, and Terry Bailey
took the Grand Masters. Katie Bodin was the first female
finisher. Teresa Courthers, a former winner of this race,
was the female Masters winner, and Janet Earhart won the
Grand Masters. The old guys seemed to run well today with
five of the top fifteen being over 50 years old. After the
race we had
plenty of good food and drink. The Gulf Coast Running Club
always does a great job with their races. The courses are
accurate and well marked. The runners are fast. The results
are completed quickly, and the awards are good. The after
race refreshments are good and plentiful. And the prices are
very economical. Thanks for all of the hard work.
