The 2006 Hobble Then Gobble Thanksgiving run was held at Lake Serene with about 100 people completing the five-mile course. The day started out cool, but warmed up to near perfect running weather by the time we started. After a few instructions and directions (this just seems like a redundancy) from Race Director Dawn Smith, we were off with Jeff Hathorn taking the early lead and never being challenged. Jim Coll came in second followed by one of the more improved runners in our area John Oliveri. Sheryl Chatfield easily won the women's division. Mike Barnes and Donna Sumrall were the Masters winners, and Kurt Bruckmeier (who has been missing from the race scene for the last few years) and Vicki Copeland won the Grand Masters. The course was somewhat challenging with more hills than were advertised; plus we had two water obstacles to deal with. The large number of dogs of all sizes, shapes, and breeds added to the run. After the race we enjoyed food and drink. Several people won door prizes while we waited for the results. All in all it was a great race.
