Distance: 5K Run/Walk

You'd think I would have learned a lesson last year when I ran this
extremely hilly 5K race. Not only did I once again punish myself, but I also
convinced Hollie that he should walk the race. When he asked me about the
course, I think I said something like---"it does have a few hills, but it
really is in a beautiful part of town." I'm really surprised that when he
finished the race (way ahead of many of the runners) he didn't show the
anger that I anticipated. His walk time was 36:55. Had they given awards to
the walkers, I think he would have been 1st overall.

The course started with a downhill, then went up and down several times
until just after mile 2 when we had a hill that was so steep that I almost
gave in and walked it. I might have been faster had I walked. Instead, I
struggled through to the top and then we did some more ups and downs with a
downhill finish.

The full results are not yet posted, but I did much better than last year
when I ran a time of 28:14 and finished 75th out of about 250-300 women.
This year my time was 27:32 and I was 66 of all the women and 2nd in my AG.
Last year I won the AG with a slower time, but this year there was a local
woman who was about 45 seconds ahead of me. I talked with her after the race and she was real disappointed that she had not registered early enough to
get one of the Santa hats that were given to the first 500 to register.
Since I already have about 25 of those Santa caps (for the club's Christmas
run/party), I gave her mine. You would have thought she'd won the race.

Yesterday afternoon, I told Hollie there was no way I was going to do this
race again next year. Today, I'm already thinking about how if I just do a
little bit of hill training, it wouldn't be so bad. I'm beginning to think
that all this running that I've been doing all these years has really done
something to my memory because I know if I do it next year I'll be saying
the same thing about how I didn't remember those hills being *that* bad.
