On Saturday, September 9th, Kim Ryder, Jennifer Venditti and I competed as a team at the Seabee Volkslauf Mud Run. At the last minute, we chose our team name – “Fast Women = Good Times”. This name may sound familiar to some of you. The mud run is a 4 mile course with very little pavement and mostly trenches full of muddy water, mud hills, and obstacles. There were even 2 large pools of muddy water that we had to swim across. If you’ve never done the side stroke with your running shoes on, you should try it!
This is a really fun and challenging race that I think everyone should try. It’s very well organized, but would not win any awards on food and shirts. You should bring your own food and beverage and don’t forget the duct tape! It is absolutely necessary in order to keep your shoes from not getting sucked off in the mud. We are going to suggest to them that they hire our graphic designer, Joni Dunbar, to design the shirts for next year.
Also, the best way to win an award is to compete as a team. I’m very proud to say that “Fast Women = Good Times” was the first women’s team to finish in a time of 47:02. Our time probably would have been a little faster if there hadn’t been a grand masters runner on the team who was slowed down by a snake in one of the trenches. © Vicki Copeland, MED See results
