2006 Bob Coleman Winter Run Sixteen-years old runner Matthew Cameron won the 2006 Bob Coleman Winter 10K Run that took place in Clinton, MS on February 4, 2006. Cameron was joined Saturday morning by 160 other runners and walkers to complete the second race of the Mississippi Track Club calendar in a sunny, forty degrees weather. The runners were faced with only light winds as they made their way in the Natchez Trace along a pretty flat course. Cameron finished in 35:26, thirty-five seconds ahead of runner-up Rob Oates (36:01). Third place went to Robert Ross, the Masters winner, who stopped the chronometer in 37:08. Jack Ward obtained the Grand Master title with a time of 45:27. In the female field, 27-years old runner Kristi Hall controlled the race from the beginning setting the winning time in 41:49. Second place was for 51-years old Don Lee Andrew, the top Grand Masters, who finished in 45:32. Placing third was Amy Macon, crossing the finish line in 47:57. Francine Johnson was the first female master overall in 49:16.
The winner of the 5K-walk race for this year's edition was Pine Belt Pacer Larry Sykes with a time of 31:55. Second place went to another Pine Belt Pacer, Nestor Raul Anzola, who finished in 34:32 and got the Masters trophy. Third place went to 71-years old Jim Myrick, the Grand Masters winner, setting his time in 36:01. Elizabeth Howard, who finished in 33:23, led the female competition, followed by Carolyn Graham, the top Masters in 35:01 and Elizabeth Joyner, who stopped the chronometer in 35:25. Donna Gonzalez took the Grand Masters trophy setting her time in 35:31.
After the race, soup, deer meat, hamburgers, bananas, cookies, cakes, coffee, cocoa, and water hit the spot, and a party atmosphere followed. Overall, I recommend this race to anyone within shouting distance. Major kudos go to the organizers for putting on an excellent event. Results can be consulted on the MTC web site. © Pijume Diwesi
