Last Chance to Run
One Mile 5K, 10K, 10 MIler,
Half-Marathon -
Woolmarket, MS

We put this Last Chance Half-Marathon on our calendar in September
and fit our marathon training around it.  On Saturday we got up
around 5, drank coffee and drove to Woolmarket only to find out that
everything had been cancelled due to anticipated bad weather except
the 5K and the Mile Run!  Both of us tried to act like we were bummed
out, but deep inside I was saying "yeaaaaaah"!

The Gulf Coast Running Club put on a good race under bad conditions.
Chad Defrene (40) ran 18:19 to edge out 16 year old Tino Gonzales for
the overall win.  Nicolle Rosetti (19) finished 5th overall (first
female) in 19:15.  The third or forth place finisher was pushing a
loaded double baby stroller.  Dude!  We finished in 27:32, another PR
for Renee'.  She was the first female over 50 (again) and now makes
me call her "Miss" Renee' (Grand Mistress).  Alas, there were no
awards in this race; instead, every runner got to go up to the table
and choose two tee shirts and one left over trophy.  Denise Longino
and Leonard Vergunst are to be commended for putting on an unusual
and fun race.

It was Baby Jogger's first race (picture).  On our run the day after
Christmas Renee' found her in the neighborhood trash with a banana
peel on her head.  We took her home, ran her through the cold water
cycle, and put her on the starting line.  She smoked the field in her
age group, and we are fitting her for a GPS unit.
