The Courthouse Celebration 5K was held in Northeast Jackson on Saturday, June 23 with a group of very fast runners. Only four seconds separated the first three finishers, and the first and third finishers are in their 40s. After a few instructions from race director, Jack Ward, the race started, and the top four runners were in contention until the very end.  Mark Thorne was the eventual winner with a time of 17.07. He was followed closely by Dale Griffin at 17.10 and Mike Thrailkill at 17.11. Thrailkill was the Masters winner. Yolanda Brown continued her dominance in the female division by winning with a 20.01. Teresa Crothers was the female Maters with a 22.00. Cal Peters took the Grand Masters with a 19.19. Donna Lee Andrews was the female Grand Masters winner. The Pine Belt Pacers were represented by Phillip Wedgeworth and Dutch Van Fleet, who came in first and third in their age group. This was a fairly fast, mostly flat course, but the heat was tough. After the race we enjoyed plenty of water, Power Aide, soft drinks, cookies and fruit. To me the best item was being able to use the showers at the Courthouse. I always enjoy going to MTC races, and it was especially good to see Nancy Dykes back after recovering from a serious illness. © Phillip Wedgeworth
