Shamrock 5K
April 14, 2007

What a great day for a race!!  The rain held off and the conditions were
more to my liking, hot and humid!!  It could have been a little hotter, but
we'll get there!!

The race was an out and back on the Trace.  The distance was a little longer
than 3 miles, yet shorter than a 5K.  There were almost as many volunteers
as runners who encouraged us all along the way.  The pacers were well
represented even though there were various other races in the area.
Sheryl Chatfield domninated all the women, and most of the men!!  I don't
recall her exact time, but lets just say "fast" and getting faster all the
time.    The Ryders rule!!  Robin Ryder was the fastest man and Kim Ryder
was the 2nd woman overall.  Ginny won her age group, Ashley won her age
group, Charles (my Charles), won 2nd in his age group and I won Masters.
Kily made a guest appearance using this race to add to his training.   I
think Andy ran 8 before racing.  (I think he is starting to take this
"running" thing seriously).   Yousri was  sighted but he wasn't taking this
race too seriously as he was spotted laughing and taking pictures while
running a blistering pace, unknown to most of us mortal runners!!

I am actually very pleased with my time and how I felt.  I was over a minute
and 10 seconds faster than my last race.  (Even though this was short).   My
breathing was much better (it is amazing how much better you can run when
you aren't sucking up pollens that make you wheeze)!!  The weather was
lovely!!  Charles still beat me, but I was closer and my real competition is
myself.   All in all, it was all good today!!  I look forward to the reports
from all the other area races!!  Take care, run on, and on,  and on!!

Addendum: A couple of other notable results by Pacers:

Tony Sanford - 2nd male/2nd overall
Mike Barnes - Masters Male

Unfortunately I didn't stay to hear the full results since we had walked and it started to rain while they were still giving awards so we headed home. (And just in time, too, it started to pour about the time we saw our front door!)

I don't know if there were any other club members in the age group placings that both Audrey and I missed but I hate to see these guys who placed so well left out of the report.
