My mother, sister, and I finally made it home from our trip to Boston and Maine, around 12:30am Wed. morning. (bad weather, gridlock in the Atlanta airport).

On Su
nday, June 17th, 2007, I ran the Great Lobster 10K in Southwest Harbor, ME put on by Crow Running.

We started our vacation Wed. and the race was on Sunday. The race had rolling hills with the last mile being mostly up hill. Part of the race runs along the water. It was a nice point to point race starting in the town and running to the Bass Harbor Light House. The race director, Gary Allen, was an entertaining character. He also was one of the runners that ran with Lance in the NYC marathon. He came up with the ingenious "free" age group awards. He took empty beer bottles and put "Atlantic" sea water in them and put a Great Lobster 10 K sticker on the bottle.

I was very amused at the beginning of the race. The starting temp. was probably around 60-65 degrees and low humidity. Gary talked about the water on the course and how we should make sure to pour water over our heads to stay cool. It was funny to me, because they talked like it was a heat wave. I ran a PR, finishing the race in 50:46. My previous PR was 52:11, so yes I am excited. I was the second female overall, OK, so there were only a few females in the race, it still counts, right? Before our trip I decided to look at the results from 2006 and found that the race only had 16 people in 2006. I thought about cancelling my plans to run the race, but decided that it did not matter about the numbers, it was about the experience of the race in Maine. I am so glad that I ran it. It was fun to run a race in a different part of the country. This year there were 28 runners. Hopefully, they will continue to double the numbers for several years to come. Great Race, Good Times!
