Loose Caboose
March 3, 2007

The 2007 Loose Caboose was held in Newton, Mississippi on Saturday, March 3, with about 50 people participating in the run/walk. After a few instructions from the race director, Ed Snodgrass, we were off on a very challenging course with lots of hills and turns, but the item that bothered me the most was a very large dog at about the 2.5 mile mark. Jason Murray took the early lead and held it for about a mile before he was caught by the eventual winner Randy Barrett. Barrett finished first with a time of 20.06. He was followed by Scott Crenshaw at 20.27 and Jason Murray at 20.45. The first female finisher was Vicki Alexander at 24.40. She was followed by Jill Miller at 26.16. The race had ten year age groups with only one award per group. Kyle Laird was the under 20 winner at 24.09. Jason Murray was the 20-29 winner with a 20.45. Ray Henderson, running in his first race, took the 30-39 age with a 23.00. Randy Barrett was the 40-49 winner at 20.06. Phillip Wedgeworth was the 50-59 winner at 21.17. Bob Glen traveled over from Meridian to win the 60+  with a 28.01. We were a little short on female runners. Jill Miller was the under 20 winner at 26.16. Robin Lester was the 20-29 winner at 32.48, and Vicki Alexander was the 40-49 age winner. Larry Sykes, Curtis Fancer, and Jan Crenshaw were the top three race walkers. Winners received rather unusual awards. Each winner got a hand painted railroad spike. After the race we enjoyed good refreshments while visiting with old and new friends. Thanks to the workers who made this race a success. © Phillip Wedgeworth
