Hi, My name is Drew Cargile, a local triathlete in this great city of Demopolis. I want to tell you a story about a guy named Evan. Evan Spence, 17, was born with a rare liver disease called Crigler – Najjar Syndrome. On June 21, 2006 he underwent a liver transplant in Pittsburgh, PA to save his life. Evan has been doing well since the surgery. The only problem right now is that the liver he received had the CMV virus which Evan himself had never had. Doctors are treating Evan with a very strong antibiotic and are hoping for the best. Here is where I and the rest of Demopolis come in. As you can imagine, Evan’s medical bills are through the roof, not only from the surgery, but with the subsequent trips back and forth for checkups and such. I want to help Evan and his family and I need your help in doing so. On March 10, 2007 I will be running a 50 mile trail run in Laurel, MS. It is called the Carl Touchstone Mississippi Trail 50 and it will be run on the Longleaf Horse Trail in the Desoto National Forest just south of Laurel, MS. I am asking each one of you to pledge so much a mile ($1.00, $ 2.00, etc.) for each mile run. Pledge now and after the race I will be collecting the money and giving it to the Spence family, and will include your name with your contribution if you would like. Decide what you can do, check the space provided, and let me know by a phone call, mail, or email. Remember, I won’t collect until I cross the finish line, so you have until March 10, 2007.
