Last week my family
and I went to Bell Buckle, TN to participate in the
festival and 10 mile run. After battling fever and strep
throat all week and against my doctors wishes, I decided
to run anyway. The Nashville Striders organized the
event. There were over 800 runners who ran in the event.
I had a good beginning at first and was very close to
the eventual winner of the race. That lasted until the
gun went off. I guess I didn't pay attention in my
geography classes in school because I thought the Alps
were in Switzerland. Anyway, the course was challenging
with the hills. I started out OK but I decided to save
my energies for the other activities of the festival
including the Moon Pie throw and hog calling contest.
The winner finished
this in a time of 52:22. I finished in 1:27:40 but I was
glad to have been able to finish considering the
circumstances. Unlike most races where you get bagels
and bananas at the finish, they gave us sausage
biscuits. I recommend this race and festival to anyone
next year.
