The Run into the New Year 5K road
race, sponsored by the Institute for Wellness and Sports
Medicine at Wesley Hospital, was held on a very warm, humid
Saturday, January 6, with forty runners participating. After
a few instructions we were off on our two and a half laps
around Wesley Medical Center's campus. The course was fairly
challenging with lots of turns, one hill and a strong wind
blowing in our faces for much of the race. Matt Welch took
the early lead and had no trouble winning with a time of
19:22. Joni Dunbar was the first female finisher with a time
of 20:55. Phillip Wedgeworth and Audrey Jackson took the
Masters honors. Unfortunately there were no Grand Masters
awards given. After the race we enjoyed good snacks and
friendly conversations while waiting for the results. Thanks
