Petal Family "Y" 5K |
The fourth annual Petal Family
"Y" 5K run was held on Saturday, March 31, at the Twin Pines Golf Course with about 45 runners in the 5K and about 20 more in the one-mile fun run. After a few instructions from the director of the Petal "Y," we were off and running. Jeff Hathorn took the early lead and had no real competition for the race. As a matter of fact, Jeff stopped and waited for the person to get to the water stop about half way into the race, and Jeff was still able to run a 17:52 and win by almost three minutes over the second person, Brian Wells, who finished at 20.36, and Phillip Wedgeworth at 20.40. Joni Dunbar was the first female finisher at 21.03. The course started in Trailwoods Subdivision and finished at the golf course. The course had several rolling hills and it was also longer than last year. Last year it was a little short, but this year it was the correct distance. Personally I didn't complain last year. After the race we had plenty of food, fruit, and drink. This was a good race and it was well organized and well run (pun intended). Thanks to all of the workers who made this possible. Maybe next year there will not be five races in South Mississippi on the same day.
