The First Baptist Church in Clinton sponsored the Hit the Bricks 5K Run/ Walk on Saturday, July 21, with well over 200 people participating in the run, walk, and one-mile fun run. After a few instructions from Jack Ward, MTC race director, we were off and running through the Brick Streets of Clinton, Mississippi. The course was full of hills, turns, and challenging footing. This race did have very good course marshals giving directions. As a matter of fact, when I was warming up the people kept telling me where to turn on the course. Bryan Lagg was able to fend off all of the competition and take the overall win. Teresa Crothers, who has been making steady progress during her comeback, gained her first win since her long layoff. Mark Lipking finished third overall and took the Masters award. Miriam Allred was the female Masters winner. Jack Adair finished eighth overall and was the Grand Masters winner. Janet Vann was the female Grand Masters winner. Phillip Wedgeworth and Dutch Van Fleet represented the Pine Belt Pacers with Phillip winning his age group. Pine Belt Pacer member Larry Sykes and Tina Brannan were the Race Walk winners. Glyn Trigg and Phyllis Norwicki were the Masters Race Walk winners. Jim Myrick and Linda Myrick were the Grand Masters Race Walk Winners. After the race we enjoyed the cool air of the church gym while feasting of Chick-Fil-la, cookies, fruit, and McAlister's tea. There were also several very nice door prizes given; however, my luck remained and I didn't win any. This was a very good race--especially for a first time event.  Results are linked. Thanks to everyone for all of the hard work. © Pjillip Wedgeworth
