| Pine Belt Pacers Anna and Gary
Thornton competed in the event. Gary finished in 5:46:23. Anna
was running 3:54:05 at mile 15.6 (25K). What a weird marathon! temperatures in the high 80's, no water in some water stations, early closure of the event, one runner dead, 300 in the hospital, 10,000 did not start, another 10,000 could not finish it, a great male race foto-finish end, a HUGE HUGE female mistake, etc, etc, etc.... When looking the results from runners from Mississippi, I saw another issue that will take a long time for the organizers to fix. Many people have split times in the half marathon between 2:30 and 3:30 and then between 4 and 5 hours in the finish line. I guess after the organization canceled the marathon and people were diverted to the starting area, many runners went through the finish line and got their pictures taken. According to officials about 10,000 of the 45,000 registered did not race while another 10,934 started but didn't finish. However, the number will increase dramatically after the organizers start checking the finishers' times and disqualify a lot of people in order to get the official results by age group, etc. © Pijume Diwesi See Results.
