The fourth annual Ellisville Fest 5K was held on Saturday,
October 27 with a little over thirty people participating in
the run. After a few instructions from Lee Mitchell, we were
off and running. Leonard Vergunst drove up from Ocean
Springs to take the overall first place for the second year
in a row with a time of 17.10. Close behind him was Jeff
Hathorn with a 17.17 to win the Masters male. Phillip
Wedgeworth was the Grand Masters winner with a 20.05. The
first female finisher was Ginny Dufrene with a 22.50.
Delescia Clayton was the female Masters with a 25.31. Robbie
Headrick was the female Grand Masters with a 25.35. The
first two in the under 18 males were Clint Sasser at 25.30
and Bo Henderson with a 31.01. Justin Bynum was the fourth
overall and the only 20-29 year old with a time of 18.43.
Mike Boyd and Chad McElvan were the first two in the 30-39
with times of 23.03 and 25.46. Terry Lawhead the third
overall finisher and Keith Barrett who was fifth overll were
first and second in the 40-49 with times of 18.38 and 19.28.
Frank Barrett got first in the 50-59 with a 32.33. In the
60+ age group, Kent Headrick and Thomas Williams were the
winners at 27.52 and 32.34. For the females Kelly Marzoni
was the 20-29 winner with a time of 31.48. In the 30-39 age
females, Kelly Spiers at 23.18 and Ashley mcElvan at 29.25
were the winners. In the 40-49 age group, Delores O'Mary at
28.06 and Janice Cook at 34.42 were the winners. It is
interesting to note that in the first six, three are over
50, and the first two are both over 50; and in the first
six, only one is under 40. I guess that means that we need
more fast young people or that old people are still fast.
The one-mile run seemed to be a family affair. Steven Sasser
and Ryne Sasser were the first two finishers, and Will
Mitchell and John Mitchell were the third and fourth
finishers. After the race we enjoyed plenty of fruit and
drink. This is a well organized race and more people need to
come out and support it next year. If any of the names are
misspelled, it can be blamed on me or the person who
actually wrote them down. Thanks to all of the Rotary Club
members who worked hard to organize this race.
