Race Report from the Baton Rouge Oktoberfest Three Mile Run Saturday, October 13th

This is one of our favorite races, along with Oschner's.  Every year they play an LSU game on a big screen in the parking lot, with the beer trucks surrounding a stage, loaded with goodies and prizes. This race is always run late afternoon.   The shirts are a long sleeve Brooks.  There was a ton of good food afterward with assorted beverages.  The course was a  little winding, however, you can't get a flatter/faster course anywhere.  I was  very apprehensive and jittery going into this race because of some difficulties training lately.  Charles was relaxed as usual, and actually, was more into the LSU game, than the upcoming run.  The run was actually postponed because LSU went into overtime.  I think I was the only one that was warmed up by the time the run began.  It was dark but the course was lit by street lights and it was kind of surreal to run up behind someone and not figure out male or female until you were passing.  (Or being passed)!!

At the beginning of the race, Charles was still crying with all of the other LSU fans.  I didn't see him until the end of the race.  I told myself that I just wanted to run and feel good, and lied to myself that time didn't matter.  Well, it did matter, and I was very pleased with myself.  I wanted to break 22:00 minutes and I did.  I felt fine when I finished, and got a much needed bite of confidence.  Charles was still crying when he crossed the line behind me, all the way to the beer truck.  I was beaten by two ladies in their 50's, but I am familiar with these two Baton Rouge runners, and they were within my sight, and I feel I am closing in on their times.  I won my age division, and the prizes consisted of an ice bucket with two beautiful glasses, a Budwieser limited edition mug, and assorted other goodies.

This was a great race, very well organized, great prizes, and a lot of fun.  I highly recommend this race next year.  Catch all of you on the run!!  © Audrey
