South Central Classic Race Report

The second annual South Central Classic 5K Run/Walk was held on Saturday, September 22 with 77 brave souls ignoring the weather report and completing this very challenging course. The Wellness Center staff worked very hard to put on a quality race and did a great job. Everyone and everything went well except for the weather, which wasn't too bad. After a few instructions from Lavon Jones, we were off and running. Terry Lawhead took the early lead and was never challenged. Margaret Ann Moore, who swam for LSU, was in second place for the entire race and finished ahead of all female finishers. Margaret Ann has run two 5Ks in her life and won both races. Keith Barrett was the third overall finisher and took the Masters, and Phillip Wedgeworth was fifth overall and won the Grand Masters. Vicki Alexander and Pat Gardner took the Masters and Grand Masters female honors. After the race, we enjoyed a variety of food and drink. Some lucky people won nice door prizes. Much thanks goes out to all of the workers who stood in the light rain and made this a success.
