Twilight Classic 5K - Kenilworth, LA - August 18, 2007

Report by Ginny Dufrene

Chad and I went to run the Twilight Classic 5k. When we warmed up, we of course, were talking about how hot and humid the weather was. By race time, it was somewhat cloudy with a slight breeze for a couple of spots along the course. To me, it was a little cooler than it has been for the Tues. night races, and the race that we ran in Houma last Sat. evening. I felt pretty good for the entire race, but as I normally do, I go out too fast and then just try to hold on for the next 2 miles. I ran 23:51 which is a 5K PR for me. Chad also had a good race. He ran 17:28, which is 29 seconds faster than his last 5k in May. This is his 4th 5k since starting back running in Sept. of 2006, after taking 10 years off from running. ( I think, if you talk to Chad, he would strongly recommend not taking this kind of time off from training).

We enjoyed visiting with Audrey and Charles after the race. Audrey won the ladies master's award and she was sick for 2/3rds of the race. Charles had a good race and would probably want you to know that he finished in front of Audrey. (the battle continues) Smile

Report by Audrey Jackson - Muscadines and 5K's

This weekend, I really felt like I was finally going to pass Charles in a 5K. He hasn't been running much, and well, I have. But no, I have muscadine vines at my house, and they are just as I like them, about half ripe. All day I ate a handful here, and a handfull there. Saturday night, the first mile, I took off. I was flying. 3/4 into that first mile, my stomach started rumbling. I wasn't very sure I could keep running. I did, I finished, behind Charles about a minute, and then lost all contents of my stomach. Charles walks up behind me and wanted to know what I ate that was so purple. Then I remembered, it was those darn muscadines. Anyway, that is what I get for being so greedy. I really am not sure at this point if I can ever eat another muscadine. I keep looking at my grapes sadly.

Needless to say, my time in this 5K wasn't what I was anticipating. Somehow all the fast women in my age were racing somewhere else, so I was able to get the Master's. Ginny was impressive!! She set a PR and she just keeps getting faster and faster. I think she was 2nd in her age group. She sticks to her training and works hard towards her goals and she enjoys running!! (Running to me is a lifestyle choice and isn't very fun unless I am racing). Chad kicked butt and was 3 seconds off the leader who was half his age. Charles continues to amaze me because he can just go out and run and doesn't have to work at it. (Next time I am feeding him the muscadines)!! Wink

Anyway, I guess Becky, since I did lose my stomach contents officially in a race, I am now a "real runner". Does it matter because it was because of greediness and not because of effort? Smile

Catch you on the run!! Audrey
