Distance: 5K Run/Walk

Once again, I conquered the hills of Atlanta. My time was way slower than the two previous years when I've run what is one of the hardest 5Ks that I've ever run. It ranks right up there with two that I ran in Leadville and Copper Mountain, Colorado. Those were harder simply because they were at 10,000-11,000 ft altitude. Today's course actually had steeper hills than either of those.

This was the fastest that I've run since Labor Your Legs 5K back in early Sept. Shortly after that race, I suffered a stress fracture to the left foot, but I think I'm finally ready to train harder and try to get faster.

My 10 year old granddaughter made her debut at the 5K distance. She has previously run several races at distances ranging from 1-2 miles. I thought she did quite well on no training. She ran the entire first mile in 9:15 and then ran and walked the remainder of the distance, finishing in a time of 36:15.
Today Hollie's first race (running) in about 4-5 years. In August he had an implant in his big toe and now he is able to return to running, instead of racewalking. I think he ran about half of the distance and finished in a time of 30:19. He too ran the first mile and it was not until mile two that I caught him. I finished with a time of 29:40 which gave me 2nd in the AG 60-64. Hollie just missed placing and is already saying that he's going to return next year and make a try at winning the AG.

It was really a fun morning---to be able to run a race with my granddaughter and to see Hollie to finally be able to run.
