The Over The River Run five-miler
in Vicksburg was held on October 13 with a good crowd of
runners and more walkers. However the race was not over the
river, nor was it a five-miler. Due to repairs on the
bridge, the race was moved to the frontage road near River
Region Hospital, and the distance was changed to a 5K. This
was a near perfect day for running with temperatures in the
upper 40s when we started, but the hills were numerous and
big. Dave Healy had a blistering time of 15.41 to take the
win. Yolanda Brown ran a 20.12 for the female win. Mike
Thrailkill ran a 16.35 to take the Maters and Willie Powers
returned to competition with an 18.46 to win the Grand
Masters. Teresa Crothers and Mary Lohrenz took Masters and
Grand Masters honors. The Pine Belt Pacers were well
represented with Nestor Anzola taking the Masters in the
walk with a fast 29.57. Phillip Wedgeworth won his age group
with a 20.04, and Dutch Van Fleet placed in his age group.
After the race we enjoyed great food consisting of bananas,
apples, oranges, barbecue pork and beef, hot dogs, baked
beans, and potato salad. Much thanks to everyone who worked
