The Friends of the Longleaf Trace organization has issued a special invitation to the Pine Belt Pacers, to become members of the Friends of the Trace. They know that Pine Belt Pacers members are among the most frequent users of the Trace, and yet only a handful (less than a dozen) have joined. The purpose of the Friends of the Trace is to provide input to the Board of Directors and Trail Manager from the trail users viewpoint. None of the BOD are frequent users, and they are not knowledgeable about the needs and wishes of the users. They realize that user input is important in order to keep the improvements and operation of the Trace in line with the users wishes. It's easy to join the Friends of the Trace, just complete a Friends Application (available at the Gateway or on-line), make a $25 (or more) donation, and you are a member. All members are invited to the monthly meetings, held the first Monday of each month at 6 pm at the Gateway. The mission of the Friends is to identify, provide for, and/or recommend to the Pearl & Leaf Rivers Rails-to-Trails Recreational District Board of Directors those things appropriate, necessary and in keeping with the intended multi-purpose uses, and that will cause the Longleaf Trace to achieve the goal of being as user friendly as is reasonably possible. The Friends have income (donations) and can accomplish some items (with BOD approval) without affecting the BOD budget. For larger items they make recommendations to the BOD. To date the BOD has approved every recommendation made by the Friends.Come join the Friends of the Trace. Have a say in upcoming items such as: The Jerry Ryan Memorial PavilionThe extension to downtown (3 lanes , one for trolleys?)Camping facilities at Beaver Lake
Please go to the Longleaf Trace Friends pages and read the Friends News, Accomplishments, and Minutes. Then fill in a Friends application and join. They need your input. It only takes about an hour a month. If you don't participate, then don't complain if the upcoming changes are not what you would have wanted! |
