Camping

Jeff Davis Lake
Jeff Davis Lake is only a couple miles off the Trace near Prentiss, and has good Camping,
boating, and picnicking facilities. They have rental boats, and can issue temporary fishing
licenses.  To get to Jeff Davis Lake from Highway 42, turn on Ed Parkman road (also see
large  brown signs on the highway) and go 1/4 mile. The entrance will be on your right.
From the Trace, use the new Mayor Blount's Contrail (side trail).
To go by road, turn on Ed Parman (sic) road and go 2.8 miles to the Lake.
If you are going in the Prentiss - Hattiesburg direction,
the turn will be to the right, and vice versa.

There are quite a few fishing piers around the lake.

Carson

A nice primitive camp area has been developed on the Trace near Carson,
just across from the horse trailer parking lot. It has plenty of parking and
lots of shade. See more pictures of the camping area in Carson..

Other Possibilities
Shady Cove RV Park on Highway 49 at the intersection with Highway 42 is about 8 miles from Sumrall, and has an area for primitive camping in addition to their RV facilities. Paul B. Johnson State Park just south of Hattiesburg on Highway 49 has excellent camping.

Another  primitive camp area may also be developed near Beaver Lake (the beaver pond at the Overlook). Please call the Trail Manager at (601) 264-8825 or 315-2453 for the latest information on this and other possible camping sites.

Fishing
Fishing is reportedly excellent in Jeff Davis Lake (see above). There is also a stream near Prentiss on the Trace where fish have been sighted. Be careful about trespassing on adjacent property without permission. Fishing is also possible at the beaver pond, again being careful to stay on Trace right-of-way (marked with concrete markers).
