Volunteering at Gran Prix Events

Help improve our events!  In an effort to better organize our Gran Prix events the club estimates we will need 8-10 volunteers per race, including a club liaison to race officials, whose responsibility it will be to organize the volunteer group and see that the terms of the club's Gran Prix agreement with the race are fulfilled. If you would like to volunteer as a liaison, please see read this document that outlines our proposed efforts.  Please make a special note that this year for the first time, the club has instituted a policy that will make it necessary to volunteer for at least one Gran Prix event in order to be eligible for a Gran Prix award. If you have any questions, or would like to volunteer as a club liaison to a Gran Prix event, please contact Jim Coll.  If you would like to volunteer for a specific event, please see the Gran Prix calendar and contact the individual listed.

Gran Prix Points System

The Pine Belt Pacer Grand Prix is an annual competition of club members in six categories – open, masters and grandmasters for both men and women.  Points are awarded based on participation and finishing position in Grand Prix events.  Ten points are awarded for participation in an event. An additional seven points are awarded for the top finisher in each division; five points are awarded to the second place finisher; three points to third; two points to fourth and one point to fifth. While club members are eligible to participate in each category that they are eligible, they are only eligible to receive one Grand Prix award.  For example, if a masters runner finishes atop both the open and masters categories, he or she will be awarded only the open division title. In such a case, the second place masters runner will then be awarded the masters title. A special “Young Runner of the Year” honor will also be awarded to the male and female runners under the age of 18 who finishes highest in the open divisions.  Important Note: By vote of club members, points will no longer be awarded for volunteer service in conjunction with a non Gran Prix event. To be eligible for a Gran Prix award, you must volunteer for at least one Gran Prix event.
