[For those new to this site, the ongoing feud between current club president Jim Coll and past-president Tony Mozingo escalated earlier this year when the pair agreed to a three-race triathlon challenge for all the marbles, bragging rights, and what-not. The first race, the Heatwave Triathlon in Jackson, was won handily in June by Mozingo by more than ten minutes. Last week, Coll ran an incredible 6:45/mile pace on the hot hills of Neshoba County to take the Heart O’ Dixie by four minutes, leaving an overall gap between the two of 6 1/2 minutes. The two have now argued about the third race until Mozingo announced yesterday that he was pulling out of the third and decisive race next month, the ½ Ironman in Arkansas. The two, through their agents, are now grappling with the details of a compromise…]

COLL ANSWERS MOZINGO’S LATEST BLUFF WITH NEW CHALLENGE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

President Jim Coll, fresh from his intimidating performance in the Heart O’ Dixie Triathlon last week, has decided that his chief rival’s unwillingness to agree on a third and final venue for their series was not related to appearance money after all. According to Coll, who received a late-night call from Mozingo’s former coach Keith Barrett, Mozingo is just scared to race the fleet-footed Coll in the future. Barrett, who was fired last week after not showing up on the race course with vital Powerade and gel on the run portion of the triathlon, instead decided to call Coll with all his former boss’s secrets.

"He trains for the run with that Baby Jogger and his new baby and thinks that that is going to build him up. He also uses something called RevengePro that he said he got from Hattiesburg Bicycle Center but is actually some kind of banned substance that he makes and puts in that container. Also, he eats at the Oak Grove Subway and thinks that the meatball sub is what the dude Jared ate when he lost the 200 pounds."

Coll only response was that his team was run by Robin Ryder and that he couldn’t very well switch coaches in the middle of a race series.

Mozingo, still hot at Barrett for the morale-crushing view of his coach, Coll and his wife, Nestor and his teammates, all standing at the entrance to the racetrack drinking Powerade and laughing as he entered the fairgrounds for the grueling last ½ mile of the triathlon, simply refused to appear for a race anywhere since last week explaining that his stretched hamstring had to be rested. According to Barrett though, Mozingo was bluffing.

"Tell him you’ll come to his house and we’ll have the triathlon there to make it easy on him. He won’t even do that, I’ll bet." said Barrett.

Finally, after a conference call and several email messages, Mozingo stated today that if Coll wants a piece of him, that he would meet him at his house at Lake Serene next Saturday, August 5th, at 6:30, for a real triathlon.

According to race sponsors, the inaugural Good Ole Boys Triathlon will be held in and around Lake Serene that day and will in fact be open to all. The entry fee will be nominal and there will be a post-race cookout for all Pacers and their families.

"I really planned this challenge for my fans. I like for them to be able to see me race from time-to-time, especially against Jim Coll. The season in Europe is so long and its good for the local folks to be around multi-sport events." stated Mozingo. "We’ll see that day who is the strongest…"

Anyone interested in this informal race should stay tuned for details, but early estimates are that the event will consist of a .75 mile swim, a 40ish mile bike, and about a 10-mile run. A post-race party will follow and include a cookout, swimming and tubing.
