STEAM WHISTLE 12K RUN/WALK
|
Clyde, Mississippi- A hundred years ago in the piney woods
of south Mississippi, two sawmill towns lived strongly on the Mississippi
Central Railroad. Both employed hundreds
and helped change the dynamics of a once poor place and hopeless time. For a quarter of a century, the lost
communities of Clyde and Epley lit the woods until
the timber was cut out and the depression came.
Gone now are the sawmills, section houses and turpentine
stills. The steel rails are replaced by a
ribbon of asphalt that winds through hardwoods and pines, over fills, and into
cuts in the grade. Come run yonder to Epley and back
from Clyde on the Longleaf Trace. Come start the year off right. Eight miles or so of history, hope for a good year, and
happiness and peace. See you then… WHEN: January 1,
