It was another hot and humid day for this week's event.
The temperature was still in the 99ºF with the heat
index reaching 104ºF half hour before the race started. Under
the direction of Audrey the Gazelle Jackson and assistance by
Sheryl Chatfield and hubby Don Mutchler, twenty runners
gathered to run 2-mile in the second week of the 2007 Pine Belt
Pacers Trek the Trace Series. Eight kids and two young
beautiful ladies, Deborah Barrett and Julie Ford, participated
in the half-mile fun run.
Everyone was assigned a team member randomly. The team
members got together and discussed what they thought they would
run, and then each member predicted what the team combined time
would be. Each individual time for the teams was taken at the
end of the race, added together, and compared to each
individuals guess or predicted team time for their team. The
closest person out of all the teams to their actual team
time was declared the winner.
The following teams were formed: Renjim, Keidow, Phibob,
Stejef, Raugin, Davash, Chamar, Brijes, Jimaqu, and Chabro. For
the second week in a row two people almost nailed their
predicted combined time and were just one second off of their
guesses. Chad Dufrene and Mark Filbey, both member of the
Chamar team, tied for the first place. The tie was broken by
coin flipping in which Mark resulted the winner of the running
shoes. Third place overall went to Kily Garcia of the Jimaqu
team. David Beckett (Davash team) was fourth, and Keith Barrett
(Keidow team) finished fifth. Ashley Bailey of the Davash
team was the winner of the women's category.
After the race we saw "two dirty white guys" wearing
black and reddish strips complaining about the run. They just
managed to finish the race in the middle of the pack. Both of
them argued that since their mentor and supporter, Becky the
Boss Ryder, was not present, they could not performed at the
highest level. They needed Becky's words of encouragement to be
happy and successful. The guys missed her very much!! (pic
attached).
After the race everyone enjoyed a lot of delicious food
and beverages and discussed his/her plans for training and
future races. In a personal note, I managed to set a new PR for
the distance, 13:28, breaking my previous record by 14 seconds. Yooopi!!!
See you guys next Tuesday at the Trace!!!
