Trek the Trace 2-Mile Series - Encore 2-Mile Predicted Time Run September 18, 2007
Fall is coming soon. Great! The temperatures in the
afternoon are dropping a couple of degrees, and running is getting more
and more enjoyable. Nineteen pacers of all ages, rookies and
veterans, families (Michael & Reynolds) and individuals, gathered at
the Southern Miss gateway to participate in an extra-unofficial week of
the 2-mile predicted time series while smiling for the TV camera.
Reporters from WDAM Sports were doing a feature on the Pine Belt Pacers
Club, making a video of the runners, and interviewing PBP
Vice-president, Audrey the Gazelle Jackson.
As the run was so informal fast times were not as
important as accurate predictions. PBP rookie Phillip Reynolds ran most
of the time alongside eventual winner Kelly Spiers. This made him racing
nearly 35 seconds in front of his prediction. On the other hand, Kelly
missed her prediction by a mere five seconds and was declared the race
winner. Second place overall went to Ginny Dufrene who was 6 second off
her predicted time. Vicky Copeland and Steve Warren tied for third
closest in prediction (8 seconds off) while Ms PBP President Dawn
Hillary finished fifth 10 second off her predicted time. Kelly won a
ticket that will permit her to travel in the first Space Shuttle Mission
that includes a Pine Belt Pacer! The date of the mission has not yet
been officially announced.
After everyone left the gateway, I ran 4-miles that
included my predicted 2-m run. I ran fine the first mile and struggled
really bad in the second because some abdominal pain. I predicted 18:00
and was "merely" 2:17 off behind of my prediction (20:17). It seems
that it is not a good idea to
eat fajitas in a restaurant a couple hours before a running event!
