Important: We are changing the day of the week and the time for the rest of the 2-mile series and 5K series in September. From here on out, weekly runs will be held on Mondays, beginning at 5:45 p.m., with one exception -- the track meet on Monday, August 23. That event will begin at 6 p.m. USM doesn't finish practicing until 5:30 or 5:45 that day. USM coaches have been kind enough to help us with this, and loan us some batons for relays, so if you see Coach Williams, Osteen or others associated with the program, please offer them a word of thanks. On Monday, August 16, we will hold the cross country meet, beginning at the Long Leaf Trace Gateway -- three-person teams to be decided upon arrival that day. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there that day, and for the track meet.  Jim Coll

September 2004

Sunday, September 5.  I'll be in Monticello (Mississippi!) over Labor Day Weekend. I need some miles. So I'm looking for a few brave souls to join me on a run from Foxworth, MS to Monticello, MS via Hwy 587(aka River Road), on Sunday Sept 5. Approx 29 miles. Start at sunrise. End at my Mom's place, with swimming pool :) For those of you who don't know, 587 is a bit hilly and curvy, so extreme caution would be advised (i.e., no headphones!). It'd be self-aided, although I may put out some water. And we may be able to talk a few folks into a roving aid station. Spread the word and let me know! (Famous 100 mile ultra runner) Spyder Tynes

October 31. There will be a "Friends of Jerry" ride on Sunday, Oct 31.  A group plans to ride the whole trail, start at 9 a.m.  We really wanted to target the riding folks, and do  a good long ride.  Jerry loved the trail, and I think he would have enjoyed the chance to ride the entire thing with a group of people that love cycling like he did. We plan to rent the Longleaf room , from 1pm till about 4 or 5 p.m. and have food, probably Subway sandwiches, etc.  that Butch would donate.  As people finish, they can go to the room and eat, visit wait on others, etc.  There will be a Friends of Trace table in the room, to give people the chance to join.  Anyone that wants to ride a shorter distance is welcome, they could start later to coordinate with the food and social time, or come back.   Sort of like a Sunday ride, but with a specific goal and some time to remember Jerry. If you have any stories about riding with Jerry, please contact Nancy Munn or Suzanne Sims. Call Suzanne at 264-1219 or Nancy at 264-9399.

Saturday, December 18 Pine Belt Pacers  Christmas run and breakfast. Run on the Trace and then go to Lake Serene Grocery on Highway 98 West at Gravel Pit Road to eat and exchange fitness-related gifts.

Saturday, December 18 is the date for the Pine Belt Pacer's Christmas Run and Breakfast. If you plan on running that morning, we will be meeting at the Jackson Road Station on the Longleaf Trace. The time will vary since there are three groups that have indicated that they will be running at 5:45 am, 7:00 am and 8:00 am. Pick your time and let me know and I'll tell the group leaders to be on the lookout for you or you can just show up at your appointed time and there should be a Pacer there to run whatever you choose.

Whether you run with the group that morning or not, you are invited to join us for breakfast and gift exchange. Breakfast will be at 9:00 am at Lake Serene Grocery. You are asked to bring an inexpensive fitness related gift for exchange.

An RSVP will be appreciated so that I can give the cooks an estimate.
